1998 Pan Extravaganza

If anyone ever needs a reason to participate in an extravaganza they need only to ask one of the participants who were in the Pan Extravaganza on April 4th, 1998. Once again the Extravaganza was a huge success, and the members of the Revolution are proud to congratulate Jason "BULL" Dozza, representing Castleton, for winning the Pan Extravaganza in fine fashion. Jason Dozza ran away with the Jon Gray Jacket after posting impressive wins in the Field Goal kicking and Pool competitions, and earning points in each event.  Keith Graves won the Rookie of the Day award, and Ray Leiber earned the Integrety Award, later to be renamed the Hynek Inspiration Award. Below are the final results and a bit about each event......

FINAL RESULTS OF THE 1998 PAN EXTRAVAGANZA

1 Jason Dozza 24 Pts
2 Larry Leiber 21 Pts
3 Raymond Leiber 16 Pts
4 Keith Graves 15 Pts
5 Drew Hibner 13 Pts
6 Philip K Martin 12 Pts

HORSE Larry dominated the horse competition this year. After a slow beginning and some mediocricy, Phil and Ray were eliminated and recieved no points. Jason(3rd) then eliminited Drew(4th) shortly before he was eliminated by Keith (2nd). Larry then made quick work and hit three straight shots to eliminate Keith.

AIR COMPRESSOR TOSS  The first strength contest was measured by a few inches, as the competitors threw a 60lb Air Compressor for distance along the Moron trail. Keith proved he was the tough guy as he threw the Air Compressor further than everyone else this day and he took the overall lead in the competition. Jason finshed second, directly ahead of Larry(3rd) and Drew (4th).

HONDA PUSHAmidst a little controversy (who knew that two like cars could weigh different? until we found lbs of clothes in the trunk of one) Drew came out the victor of the Honda Push, a single elimination tournament pitting one against one pushing a car about 200 ft. Jason finished second. Phil finished third, and Ray fourth, each earning their first points of the day. Jason took the overall lead in the competition.

Standings after the morning events.....Jason 8, Keith 7, Drew 6 Larry 6, Phil 2, Ray 1

Field Goal KickingI  t is hard to say a good word about three competitors in this competition. Never before has three people proved so futile in kicking field goals. Phil finished last, unable to kick a chip shot 20 yarder, and Ray beat Keith in a kickout for fourth from 20 yards out, earning one point. Drew finished third, Larry second, and Jason first, extending his lead on the rest of the field.

200 YD DASH(anything goes)Ray bolted off the starting line and was never caught to win this event. He did, however, need to avoid the field as he came around the pole to make the return trip. Keith made a valiant effort to catch him, but came up short to finish second. Jason finished third, and Larry fourth.

STAIRCASE RACE  In possible the most competitive competition of the day, Keith raced to the top of the steps a half step quicker than Jason in the championship. Keith survived Ray and Larry, as both slipped up on their way to the top. Finishing third was Ray and fourth Phil. As soon as Keith hit the top, the bells of the tower rang round to recognize the him and the Revolution througout the land.note: Jason wimped out from the original plan, and refused to come back down the stairs in the championship because he was afraid of "getting hurt".

BOWLING  Larry won this competition by a comfortable margin, but the race for second, third, and fourth was not determined until the end. Phil ended up in second, Ray in third, and Jason in fourth....Keith was noticably unpolished in the bowling competition.

POOL  Jason proved that he's spent the most time in a bar playing pool as he defeated Phil in the championship of the pool event. Larry defeated Drew for third, giving Drew fourth.

Standings after the afternoon events....Jason 22, Larry 16, Keith 14, Ray 10, Drew 9, Phil 9

FINAL EVENT, BEER DRINKING  Ray proved that one of colleges advantages is the chance it give you to drink beer in a very uncivilized fashion. In a race to finish 6 beers, Ray proved there was not one in the building who could match him. He finished about 10-15 minutes quicker than the others. Larry finshed second, giving the family a 1-2 finish, Drew finished third, Phil fourth, Jason and Keith brought the rear.
